Take Action

First, we hope that you will join Minnesota NORML.

Minnesota NORML is a membership-based nonprofit, advocacy group.  Our strength comes from our members.  By joining Minnesota NORML you will be an important part of group of people that are demanding the repeal of Minnesota's cannabis laws.  Truth and facts are on our side.  We need to hold our officials and representatives accountable!

So important, please contact your representatives!

  1. You can find your State Senator and State Representative by entering your address   find here
  2. Contact both, your Representative & Senator, by email, a letter, or phone call.
  3. Ask them what their position is on both medical marijuana and personal use of marijuana.
  4. Tell them your position (some possible talking points:)

"Despite all all the time and money that is spent on cannabis prohibition, marijuana is easier to get than ever before.  Prohibition does not work.  It only makes criminals out of otherwise, law-abiding citizens. It is wrong to arrest or ticket adults for choosing a safer alternative than alcohol.  As a voting citizen, I want an end to cannabis prohibition allowing Law Enforcement to focus on serious crimes."

  1. Let us know, what they say.  Please send us an email letting us know or forward copies to us ( [email protected]. We are assembling a list of Minnesota's representatives and their position on medical marijuana and adult, personal use.  Informing us of your representatives' position will be very helpful.  When our list is assembled, you will be provided a copy. Thanks!

Some of Our Volunteer Roles:

  • Have a One-to-One meeting with someone who is interested in legalization or someone who is on the fence.  Tell them briefly about MN NORML, why you’re involved, and then practice active listening.  Hear the other person’s story and then connect the dots between her / his motivation and how it relates to MN NORML’s volunteer opportunities.
  • Host a MN NORML house meeting.  Set a date, time, and location for your house / community meeting.Find an experienced meeting facilitator.Show news / film clips about cannabis legalization.Have a group discussion and make plans to take some sort of action to further the legalization movement through MN NORML.
  • Write a letter to the editor (LTE) / help someone else write an LTE / attend a LTE writing group / host a LTE writing group. This is a fun and creative way to participate in MN NORML.  LTE writing groups hosts and trainers will receive guidance from MN NORML staff.
  • Become an Official MN NORML public speaker / power point presenter.Write speeches / presentations of different lengths: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes.  Share with MN ASAP staff / board members for revision suggestions.  Finally, make presentation to the MN NORML board for official endorsement.
  • Join or Lead a “Sign Making Party”! When NORML does public demonstrations / rallies, we want nice hand-made signs that are on message.  This is a fun and important volunteer activity.
  • Online events submitter.  MN NORML is holding events all over Minnesota, sometimes in communities that only have a few founding members.  They need our help!  One role MN NORML volunteers can fill, from anywhere, is to submit the: who, what, where, and when in online events calendars.  This is simple and important work.  Please add your name to our roster of volunteers in this department.
  • Researcher:  Do you love to read news articles, scholarly reports, and books about cannabis?  If so, you can help by summarizing and citing important information.  We would like volunteers with good research / writing skills to provide MN NORML with one-pagers on a range of cannabis-related issues, in a timely and up-to-date manner.
  • Start a MN NORML Chapter in your area! Do you live in a town with no MN NORML group?  If so, would you be the right person to start one?

If you would like to get involved in these or other volunteer opportunities, please touch base with Nathan Ness, the Director of Organizing for MN NORML.  [email protected] / 612-584-3093
